What This Involves

• Restoring Local Landscapes

  Restoring local landscapes begins with growing and planting trees.

  We develop tree nurseries and work on community reforestation, including fruit-tree and bamboo plantations.

  We also monitor planted areas to see how they establish over time.

• Conserving Local Biodiversity

  Protecting biodiversity means caring for local plants and other forms of life.

  Our work includes community gardens, local biodiversity conservation, and botanical and herbal gardening.

  At Mission Hill, this has included growing medicinal and herbal plants.

• Reducing Waste

  Waste is easier to manage when it is separated before everything gets mixed together.

  We work with communities on waste segregation and local systems for managing non-biodegradable waste.

• Understanding Local Resources

  Good environmental planning starts with understanding local conditions and how they are changing.

  We map local land, water, vegetation, and biodiversity, and carry out environmental surveys to understand their condition and how they are changing over time.

  We work with schools and communities on environmental education, including awareness around water.

  We also develop local environmental action plans with communities.
