Rural Sustainable Development
Gram ViKAAS SEVA Kendra
Strong villages, standing on their own.
Gram ViKAAS SEVA Kendra brings EduCARE’s four pillars, Safety, Health, Environment and Empowerment, together in rural communities. It connects village development priorities with public programmes, practical expertise and community knowledge.
The name stands for Village Knowledge, Agriculture, Adaptation and Self-reliance through Social Entrepreneurship and Volunteer Action.
What This Involves
-
Village Knowledge
Bring local and traditional knowledge together with scientific evidence and appropriate technology.
Use participatory mapping and community research to understand local resources and priorities.
-
Agriculture
Support nature-based practices, sustainable livelihoods and local resource stewardship.
Build on farmers’ knowledge and experience in caring for land, water and other resources.
-
Adaptation
Develop practical responses to climate and environmental change.
Connect village planning and disaster preparedness with community knowledge of local conditions.
-
Self-reliance
Strengthen women’s self-help groups, youth enterprises, Aapda Rakshak volunteers and community-led elder-care networks.
Build local ownership so the work can continue beyond an individual project.
Working Together in Villages
The approach brings Gram Panchayats, development blocks, relevant government departments, local organisations and residents together around village priorities. Panchayat plans and public programmes provide a starting point for practical local action.
We aim to complement existing government and community efforts, supplement them where practical capacity or outreach is missing, and connect the people and institutions working towards the same goals.
Applied research, participatory mapping, pilot projects, documentation and evaluation help identify solutions that communities can maintain and develop themselves. Local innovation grows from trying ideas, learning from the results and sharing what works.
Global Perspectives, Local Action
The Sustainable Development Goals, the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and climate-adaptation priorities inform this work. Each village’s knowledge, needs and conditions shape how those ideas become useful locally.
Every effort makes a difference. Every contribution matters.
